Modified plastic PC+ABS, an engineering material made by alloying or blending polycarbonate (PC) and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS), has logistics properties that not only affect the physical stability of raw materials and finished products during storage and transportation, but also directly impact supply chain efficiency and the quality assurance of end products. In a globalized production and distribution system, fully understanding and optimizing the logistics characteristics of PC+ABS is crucial for reducing losses, controlling costs, and ensuring consistent material performance.
From a physical and mechanical logistics perspective, PC+ABS has a density of approximately 1.1-1.2 g/cm³, classifying it as a lightweight engineering plastic, which helps reduce transportation weight and logistics energy consumption. Its tensile strength at room temperature remains at 50-65 MPa, and its notched impact strength is 20-40 kJ/m², exhibiting good resistance to mechanical impact and stacking pressure. It can maintain structural integrity under conventional warehousing and land/sea transportation conditions, reducing the risk of breakage and deformation caused by drops or compression. However, PC components are sensitive to notches; punctures by sharp objects or drops from heights can still cause localized cracking. Therefore, cushioning materials and anti-collision frames must be used in transport packaging design to avoid concentrated loads contacting sharp edges.
The thermal and humidity-related logistical properties are also critical. PC+ABS has a heat distortion temperature between 110-130℃ and is dimensionally stable under normal storage temperatures (≤35℃). However, prolonged exposure to high temperatures (>50℃) or direct sunlight can cause thermal aging, leading to decreased impact strength and surface yellowing. Furthermore, PC is hygroscopic; if the moisture content of the raw material particles exceeds 0.02%, defects such as silver streaks and bubbles will occur during subsequent processing. Therefore, a dry environment must be maintained during logistics and warehousing, using moisture-proof packaging and sealed containers, and conducting moisture content testing before warehousing. Special attention must be paid to humidity control within containers during sea freight or rainy season transportation, with desiccants and temperature control measures implemented as necessary.
Regarding chemical resistance, PC+ABS exhibits good resistance to water, weak acids and alkalis, and common oils, preventing chemical corrosion in typical industrial transport environments. However, it is not resistant to strong organic solvents (such as aromatics, ketones, and chlorinated solvents). Contact with such substances may cause swelling, cracking, or performance degradation. Therefore, during logistics, incompatible chemicals should be strictly isolated, and leakage prevention and zoned loading strategies should be adopted.
The flowability of the processed granules also needs attention. PC+ABS particles should be uniform in shape, free of dust and long, irregularly shaped pieces, to prevent bridging or measurement errors during automatic metering and conveying. Severe friction and high shear should be avoided during transportation and handling to prevent pre-melting adhesion of particles due to static electricity or mechanical heat accumulation, which would affect subsequent mixing and molding quality.
In summary, modified PC+ABS plastic exhibits advantages in logistics, including lightweight, mechanical robustness, moderate weather resistance, and chemical resistance. However, its sensitivity to hot and humid environments, mechanical impact, and incompatible chemicals requires targeted protective measures in packaging, storage, and transportation. By employing logistics management strategies such as moisture-proof and temperature-controlled, buffering and anti-collision, and isolation and protection, the performance consistency can be effectively maintained, ensuring quality control and cost optimization throughout the entire chain from raw material supply to final manufacturing, and providing reliable logistics support for its stable application in high-end manufacturing fields such as automobiles, electronics, and home appliances.
