Glass Fiber Reinforced PC Compounds

Polycarbonate is chosen for its impact strength, light weight and optical clarity, but in thin or load-bearing structural parts its stiffness, creep resistance and dimensional stability can fall short under sustained load. Glass fiber reinforced PC compounds address this by dispersing controlled-length chopped glass fibers through the PC matrix during twin-screw compounding. The fibers carry a substantial share of the applied load, raising tensile and flexural modulus, reducing creep under long-term stress, and lowering mold shrinkage together with its anisotropy.

The result is a material that holds tighter tolerances across varying temperatures and resists sagging or deformation where neat PC would gradually yield. Fiber-matrix adhesion and fiber length retention are tuned at the compounding stage, because poor wet-out leaves weak interfaces and visible surface swirl, while over-processing breaks the fibers and forfeits the stiffness the grade is meant to deliver. Because fibers create anisotropic shrinkage, flow direction and gate placement also have to be designed around the reinforced structure, otherwise the part twists even when the material itself is well compounded.

On the production side, we focus first on glass fiber formulation tuning. Our in-house R&D team adjusts fiber loading, sizing and the compounding temperature window so that the target stiffness is reached without sacrificing the impact toughness PC is selected for, and so that fiber dispersion stays even across the batch. We also pay close attention to dimensional stability control, since glass-filled parts must mate precisely with metal inserts, screws and housings downstream; warpage or uneven shrinkage at this stage becomes a molding problem for the customer. Samples of 5KG or less are available for you to verify, and each sample is pelletized under the same standards as mass production rather than a hand-adjusted trial. We can also develop a bespoke glass-filled recipe from your technical drawings or physical prototypes, balancing stiffness, flow and surface finish for your specific part geometry. We balance this against flow and surface appearance, since heavily filled compounds can show fiber texture on the finished part; where a cleaner look matters, we tune the wet-out and surface finish accordingly.

Applications

Precision structural parts and gear housings: The added stiffness and low creep keep bearing and gear components within tolerance under sustained load and vibration.

Power tool housings and structural covers: Glass fiber reinforcement resists deformation under clamping and repeated impact, protecting the internal mechanism.

Electrical brackets and connector supports: Stable dimensions and low shrinkage allow precise mating with metal inserts and long-term assembly reliability.

Customization

Glass fiber content and fiber sizing; surface finish (general vs. low-gloss wet-out); color matching; flame rating (V-0 option); flow grade adjustment; recipe development per technical drawings or prototypes.

Packaging & Transportation

Export packing is arranged per customer requirements and mutual agreement. We support EXW (buyer collects from factory), FOB (factory covers transport to port and export clearance), and DDP (delivered duty paid to the buyer's warehouse).
