Safety standards in the electronics industry are becoming increasingly stringent, particularly regarding fire prevention. Using PC ABS Granules allows designers to combine the high heat resistance and toughness of polycarbonate with the excellent processing characteristics of ABS. When flame-retardant additives are incorporated into the blend, the material can achieve a V-0 rating under UL94 standards, meaning it stops burning within ten seconds. This is critical for laptop housings, battery chargers, and server components where internal heat buildup is a constant factor. The alloy provides a higher heat deflection temperature than pure ABS, ensuring the casing does not warp or soften during heavy device operation.

 

The production of high-quality PC ABS Granules requires precise blending technology to ensure the two polymers are fully compatible at the molecular level. If the mixing is uneven, the final parts may suffer from delamination or poor impact strength. Currently, the market is seeing a trend toward "halogen-free" flame retardants to meet environmental regulations like RoHS and REACH. When processing this material, it is vital to avoid over-shearing in the screw of the injection machine, as this can break down the flame-retardant chemistry. Proper venting in the mold design is also necessary to allow gases to escape, preventing burn marks and ensuring the surface remains aesthetically pleasing for high-end consumer products.
